Feel that shift in the air? It’s not just fall — it’s Walktober 2025!

Lane County’s favorite walking celebration is back for its 3rd year, with free, fun, and themed walks happening all October. You can join tree walks, birdwatching tours, historic cemetery walks, urban art strolls, a group thrift walk, the ever-popular Coffee Shop Hop, and the Walktober Challenge — yes, there are prizes! Walktober 2025: Lace Up for a Month of Walking, Exploring, and Community

October is almost here, and with it returns Walktober 2025—Lane County’s month-long celebration of walking, connection, and exploration. Whether you walk for wellness, discovery, or just to enjoy the fall weather, Walktober offers something for every pace and interest. With dozens of free, themed walks happening all month, now’s the perfect time to grab a friend and your most comfortable shoes.

Here are some highlights to add to your calendar:

  • Wednesday Wheelers (October 1, 10 AM–2 PM): A social, informal walk welcoming wheelchair users and others exploring Eugene’s accessible paths.

  • Island Park & River Birding Walk (October 4, 9:30–11 AM): Stroll Springfield’s riverside with local birders.

  • Kalapuya Ways Talk and Hike (October 5, 1–3 PM): Explore Indigenous culture and history in Hendricks Park.

  • Eugene Masonic Cemetery Tour (October 9, 5–6 PM): Learn about local history and trees in a beautiful historic setting.

  • Springfield Mayor’s Walk (October 18, 9:30–11 AM): Walk through the Washburne District, finishing downtown.

If your schedule’s tight, there are plenty of self-guided options such as the Downtown Eugene Mural Walk, Springfield Public Art Walk, and the Coburg Historic Homes Walk. Printable maps and directions for these and other walks are available at wewalklane.org.
